John F. Kennedy Center Foundation:
Legacy Program

Mission

Our mission is to empower people to build personal and community wealth through cooperative living.

Family * Health * Life * Education * Community * Business * Finance

A Legacy

A living legacy is a resource established by family members or a community to be enjoyed now and passed on to future generations. Examples of family legacies include building a savings account, owning real estate, educating children, and establishing a trust fund. Examples of community legacies include building modern schools, providing clean water, and planting trees.

About Us

The Legacy Program was conceived in January 2001 by the board and committee members of the JFK’s Islands of Beauty Program and the JFK Center . The Islands of Beauty Program was developed by the JFK Center in 1990 and was extended to Saipan in the US Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands in 1994 where it operates a youth and community program.

As part of the JFK organization, the Legacy Program has brought together professionals in the fields of education, social services, agronomy, business and finance to create innovative ways to ease social and economic despair in emerging communities. The foundation is based on charitable and ethical business principles.

The Legacy Program educates families, businesses and communities on how to develop and sustain a legacy. In addition, the program teaches the importance of healthy living, parenting, entrepreneurship, financial planning, investment and livelihood skills to enhance the knowledge of program participants.

JFK Fellows

JFK Fellows program is a new JFK project with implementation scheduled for January 15, 2005.  The JFK Center Foundation – Legacy Program is involved in community development. We work through and with volunteers who are called “Fellows.”  We send them to the developing world in Micronesia and Philippines .  It promotes volunteering by bringing people together to share creativity and learning to build a fairer world.  JFK does not work by sending equipment medical supplies or aid.  We provide skilled and talented people.  These volunteers share their professional skills and experience with local communities and partners, exchanging ideas with the local people in order to help them help themselves.  This will help and enable them to learn and adopt new ideas and skills that would be beneficial for them. Once this project is up and running, local people can keep them going when the volunteers who helped to start them return home.  JFK Fellows will come home with improved skills in areas such as team building, problem solving, the ability to cope with difficult situations and strategic thinking.

JFK recognizes the power of individuals driven by their commitment to make a difference wherever they are.  Through JFK Center Foundation – Legacy Program project based in the Philippines , JFK offers a unique opportunity for Filipino professionals, students and other individuals to learn skills with some of the best people in their own field.  JFK Fellows go to high schools and universities to facilitate the “Young Shall Grow Program” – a self development and enrichment program. They also serve as mentors or volunteers in different areas of society.  To sponsor a Fellow, please contact the John F Kennedy Center – Legacy Program.
